ON THE COVER
The 2015 Nissan® Murano®
The third generation Murano is better in almost every way than previous versions from its concept-look exterior styling, interior roominess enhanced aerodynamics to performance and fuel economy.
They are available with features like Around View® Monitor with 360º Moving Object Detection (MOD) and Intelligent Cruise Control. All cruise control radar systems detect radar reflected from a vehicle ahead. But the ICC system on the new Murano equipped with Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) does the equivalent of a tricky basketball bounce pass. It is capable of seeing two cars ahead by bouncing a radar beam off a second vehicle traveling in front of the vehicle ahead in the same traveling lane. So, if the driver two cars in front slams on their brakes and if there is a potential risk of a forward collision, the PFCW system will warn the driver by blinking the vehicle ahead detection indicator light and sounding a warning tone. If you apply the brakes quickly and forcefully after the warning, and the Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) system detects that there is still the possibility of a forward collision, the system will automatically increase the braking force.
Travel is improved with the next-generation Zero-Gravity front and rear outboard seats which help to reduce fatigue when driving long distances, and the new laminated acoustic glass and sound insulation make it easier to carry on a conversation. Acceleration comes from the responsive 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 that pumps out 260 horsepower with a Continuously Variable Transmission (Xtronic). D-step tuning provides the Murano’s CVT with stepped ratio changes during moderate to heavy acceleration. Not only does this reduce noise, it produces a natural acceleration feeling that almost mimics a geared transmission. With the improved drivetrain, active grille shutter, underbody covers, 0.31 coefficient of drag, and 130 pounds less weight overall, the Murano achieves @ 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway (actual mileage may vary).
