Extended Storage Switch and BCM Transit Mode

To help prevent the 12 volt service battery from becoming discharged during transit and dealership storage, vehicles delivered to dealers (starting with October 2010 production) are equipped with two battery saving features: “Extended Storage Switch” and “BCM Transit Mode”.

Failure to disable either battery saving feature prior to customer delivery will result in improper operation of various Nissan and Infiniti electrical functions leading to Customer Dissatisfaction.

Extended Storage Switch

The Extended Storage Switch (ESS) is located on the fuse block (Junction Box) for transportation and storage. ESS is a removable fuse that when pulled out disables several electrical functions. Vehicles are shipped to dealers with the fuse set in the “Inventory Condition” (fuse disengaged - pulled out) to retain battery charge. Dealerships are required to set the ESS to the “customer delivery position” by pushing in the fuse (fuse engaged) prior to customer delivery.

Systems Impacted if ESS fuse is Disengaged

Note: Make certain the ignition is in the OFF LOCK position and the headlight switch is in the OFF position before changing the Extended Storage Switch position.

If the ESS fuse ever needs service after vehicle delivery, it is not necessary to replace it with a new ESS fuse. The ESS is only an aid to improve battery life during vehicle storage at the dealer. If the ESS fuse ever needs service after vehicle delivery, discard the ESS and install the correct fuse in its place.

BCM Transit Mode

BCM Transit mode is a Body Control Module setting that also disables vehicle electronic features. Vehicles are shipped to dealers with the BCM transit mode enabled.

Canceling BCM Transit mode

Turn the ignition OFF. Then simultaneously push all the way down on the wiper switch and turn signal for 2 seconds to disable the BCM transit mode. Dealerships are required to disable the BCM transit mode prior to customer delivery.

Note: Once transit mode is turned off it cannot be reactivated.

Note: To cancel BCM Transit Mode on an NV:
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Twist wiper switch counterclockwise to the High position , and move the turn signal switch to the Left position (all the way down for 2 seconds).

Always ensure that both battery saving features are disabled before delivering vehicles to customers. Not disabling the battery saving features will result in improper operation of various Nissan and Infiniti electrical functions.

If any electrical equipment does not operate, first check that the BCM Transit Mode is turned OFF, and the extended storage switch is in the pulled out position (switched off) before replacing any parts.
