The 2014 Infiniti QX60 (formerly known as the Infiniti JX35) has become the third hybrid in the Infiniti lineup by adding a second powertrain choice. Along with the Q70 Hybrid (currently available as the M Hybrid) and the recently released Q50 Hybrid, the QX60 is now available with the Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid® system for the 2014 model year.
Based on technology found in the Infiniti M35h Hybrid, the QX60 Hybrid’s Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid® system uses a compact lithium-ion battery and electric motor to provide supplementary power through its one-motor/two-clutch system. The result is excellent fuel economy without any compromise of performance.
The QX60 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter supercharged QR25DER engine and 15 kW electric motor connected to an advanced CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with manual shift mode. The net system horsepower is estimated at 250-horsepower, which is power almost the equivalent to the 3.5-liter V6, but with four-cylinder fuel economy. The QX60 adopts a supercharger with four-lobed rotors to help improve engine output and combustion efficiency.
The QX60 Hybrid can be equipped with front-wheel-drive or, for superior traction in all weather conditions, all-wheel drive.
An Intelligent Regenerative Braking system partially recharges the battery during vehicle braking.
Independent Front Strut and Multi-link Rear Suspensions
Responsive handling and flat ride comfort is provided by an independent strut front and multi-link rear suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars - which combine with the high stiffness/low vibration sensitivity body to help create a quiet, comfortable interior environment for all occupants.
Linear, easy-to-operate steering comes from the vehicle-speed-sensitive power steering system. The available Active Trace Control system (part of the optional Driver Assist Package) utilizes the QX60’s standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help improve cornering feel, by automatically applying the brakes or smoothing engine torque characteristics while accelerating. The VDC system reduces the engine output to reduce wheel spin.
The QX60’s braking system is a 4-wheel vented disc design with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. An Intelligent Regenerative Braking system partially recharges the battery during vehicle braking, converting the vehicle’s kinetic energy otherwise lost in braking.
Stylish 18-inch split 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 235/65R18 all-season tires are standard on every QX60 Hybrid with 20-inch split 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 235/55R20 all-season tires available as part of the HEV Deluxe Touring Package.
The 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid is offered in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations with five available equipment packages: Driver Assistance Package, Maple Interior Trim, HEV Premium Package and HEV Deluxe Touring Package.
Electrically Driven Hydraulic Power Steering
The hydraulic pump electric power steering system on the QX60 is composed primarily of the power steering oil pump assembly (power steering control module, power steering motor, power steering oil pump and reservoir tank), hydraulic pipes and steering gear assembly. The power steering control module controls the speed of the power steering motor according to the steering angle sensor signal and vehicle speed signal. The power steering control module calculates the hydraulic pressure of the hydraulic pump electric power steering system according to the driving conditions.
The power steering motor is controlled by the power steering control module and drives the power steering oil pump. The power steering oil pump generates hydraulic oil pressure in the system thus controlling the steering force.
The hydraulic pump electric power steering system operates when the vehicle is in the READY state or after engine start.
Note
When the steering wheel is operated repeatedly or the steering wheel is turned full left or full right for a long period during parking or low speed driving, the function of the hydraulic pump electric power steering system becomes limited with a protective function mode to prevent the system from overheating. Continued operation of the steering wheel will cause the hydraulic pump electric power steering system to stop and the hydraulic pump electric power steering system warning lamp may come ON. In this case, the steering wheel operation temporarily becomes hard. This is not a malfunction. DTC C160A Heat protection will be set to distinguish from a malfunction.
When the hydraulic pump electric power steering system is in protective function mode and steering assist force is not being generated, the hydraulic pump electric power steering warning lamp turns ON to inform the driver that the system is in the manual steering state. When the engine is turned OFF (ignition switch OFF) and steering operation is stopped for a while, and the internal temperature of the hydraulic pump electric power steering system temperature decreases dropping to 194 °F (90 °C) or less, the steering operation will return to normal operation after the vehicle is in READY state, or after restarting the engine.
If an error condition occurs in the hydraulic pump electric power steering system, the fail-safe mode turns OFF the system rendering steering assist to a manual steering state, or the system is restricted to a constant steering assist level state. When the system is in a fail-safe mode it turns ON the hydraulic pump electric power steering warning lamp to warn the driver that the hydraulic pump electric power steering system is in the manual steering state.
Exterior Features
The aerodynamic shape of the QX60 helps it achieve a coefficient of drag of 0.34. A front underbody spoiler, integrated rear spoiler and rear tire deflectors also help contribute to its zero front and rear lift for enhanced road holding. The QX60’s exterior is highlighted by a double-arch front grille/headlight shape, a double-wave hood and a crescent-cut D-pillar and greenhouse design.
The QX60 is equipped with automatic ON/OFF High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional xenon headlights along with fog lights. Power Rear Liftgate
Power Open:
The power rear liftgate can automatically move from the fully closed position to the fully open position in approximately five to eight seconds. The hazard lights flash and a chime sounds to indicate the power open sequence has been started.
The power rear liftgate offers three points of operation: from the interior, the Infiniti Intelligent Key, and the liftgate itself.
Power Close:
The power rear liftgate can move automatically from the fully open position to the closed position. When the liftgate reaches the closed position, the cinching motor engages and pulls the liftgate to its latched position. Power close takes approximately 7 – 10 seconds.
The power close feature can be activated by the liftgate button on the keyfob, the instrument panel and the liftgate opener switch. The hazard lights flash and a chime sounds to indicate the power close sequence has been started. If the liftgate opener switch is activated while the cinching motor is engaged, the cinching motor will disengage and release the latch. The keyfob button must be held for 0.5 seconds before the liftgate closes. The switch on the liftgate can only be used to close the liftgate when the power liftgate main switch is in the ON position.
Reverse:
The power rear liftgate will reverse direction immediately during power open or power close if the switch on the keyfob, liftgate switch, or if the liftgate opener switch is pushed. A chime will sound to announce the reversal.
Auto Reverse:
If an obstacle is detected during power open or power close, a warning chime will sound and the liftgate will reverse direction and return to the full open or full close position. If a second obstacle is detected, the liftgate motion will stop and the liftgate will enter manual mode. A touch sensor is mounted on each side of the liftgate. If an obstacle is detected by a touch sensor during power close, the liftgate will reverse direction and return to the full open position.
NOTE: If the touch sensor is damaged or removed, the power close function will not operate.
There are some small distances immediately before the closed position which cannot be detected. Make sure that all passengers have their hands inside and pets are safely secured inside the vehicle before closing the liftgate.
Manual Mode:
If power operation is not available, the liftgate may be operated manually. Power operation may not be available even if the power liftgate main switch is in the OFF position, if multiple obstacles have been detected in a single power cycle, or if battery voltage is low.
If the power liftgate opener switch is pushed to OFF during power open or close, the power operation will be canceled and the liftgate can be operated manually.
To open the liftgate manually, press the liftgate opener switch and lift the liftgate.
To close, lower and push the liftgate down securely until it latches.
Power Liftgate Main Switch
The power liftgate operation can be turned ON or OFF by the power liftgate main switch on the instrument panel.
When the power liftgate main switch is pushed to the OFF position, the power operation is not available by the power liftgate switch on the liftgate and liftgate opener switch.
Power operation is available when the power liftgate main switch is in the OFF position, with the instrument panel switch and the keyfob button.
Infiniti Drive Mode Selector
With the Mode Selector the driver can choose between STANDARD, SPORT, ECO and SNOW. When any of the above modes are selected, it appears in the vehicle information display for two seconds. This system controls throttle response, transmission shift point characteristics and also AWD control (Snow mode, AWD models only). Drive Mode Selectors on vehicles equipped with the available Driver Assistance Package also control the ECO Pedal.
The Standard mode is recommended for normal driving. Standard mode automatically selects the shift schedule by considering the balance of fuel economy and driving performance based on the driving condition and driving trend.
Sport mode adjusts the engine and transmission points to enhance performance. The QX transmission has a stepped gear ratio at @ half throttle or greater. Sport mode uses a shift schedule that mainly utilizes the high engine speed zone to improve the driving control characteristic and response. Fuel economy may be reduced in Sport mode.
ECO mode adjusts engine and transmission points to help keep the engine speed at lower levels to enhance fuel economy. This helps to decrease needless acceleration and deceleration. If equipped with an ECO pedal, the pedal effort may be increased to help the driver stay within the ECO zone. Selecting ECO mode does not necessarily improve fuel economy as many driving factors influence its effectiveness. But the ECO drive indicator helps the driver with an indicator to improve economical driving. When the accelerator pedal is depressed within the range of economy drive, the ECO drive indicator light illuminates in green. When the accelerator pedal is pressed above the range of economy drive, the color of the ECO drive indicator light changes to orange.
The ECO drive indicator light will not illuminate in the following cases:
The Snow mode is recommended to be used on snowy or slippery roads. When the Snow mode is activated, engine output is controlled to help avoid wheel spin.
Intelligent AWD
QX60 vehicles equipped with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system can intuitively adjust handling and power delivery in adverse weather conditions. By constantly monitoring wheelspin, throttle position, and vehicle speed, the system can automatically divert up to 50% of the available power to the rear wheels, enhancing traction and control when conditions are less than optimal. When all-wheel drive is not needed, 100% of the power is channeled to the front to improve fuel economy allowing the vehicle to be driven in conditions better suited for front-wheel drive.
The AWD Control Unit controls the driving force distribution from front wheel driving mode (100:0) to 4-wheel driving mode (50:50). This allows the QX60 to improve drivability and traction control on a slippery road surfaces. Intuitive AWD helps provide maximum traction when starting and higher efficiency while the vehicle is traveling, as well as helping maintain traction in the corners. Sensor inputs determine the vehicle’s turning condition and tight cornering/braking are then controlled by distributing optimum torque to rear wheels.
Interior Features
By locating the compact Li-ion battery under the 3rd row seat, the interior of the QX60 Hybrid maintains its flat rear floor for easier passenger access to the rear seats without reducing cargo room. The QX60 Hybrid’s flexible interior allows 5.5-inches of fore and aft 2nd row seat travel - allowing legroom and cargo space to be conveniently adjusted between the 2nd and 3rd rows as needed. The 3rd row provides ample headroom and knee room for adults or children. Access to the 3rd row is surprisingly easy due to the wide door openings and the long forward slide of the 2nd row seat.
The QX60’s multi-mode 2nd row seat’s unique forward movement function overcomes the typical issue of having to remove a 2nd row child seat for entry or exit. The installed child seat moves forward with the 2nd row seat (40 percent side of 60/40 split-folding seat) without limiting 3rd row access. In addition, both the 2nd and 3rd row seats are split folding (60/40 2nd row, 50/50 3rd row) and recline for greater occupant comfort.
Some key design features include the signature driver-oriented cockpit, with small chrome accents and an interior that provides elegant leather appointments with Kasane Washi trim or available Maple trim accents.
The instrument panel is highlighted by the Infiniti Intelligent-View display in the center meter cluster along with large, easy-to-read Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges. Special HEV information screens are added to display hybrid power usage and charge regeneration readouts.
Heated front seats with 8-way power driver’s seat and 6-way power front passenger’s seat come standard. Climate-controlled front seats (heating and cooling) are optionally available. Also available are heated 2nd row outboard seats and a heated steering wheel as part of the HEV Deluxe Touring Package.
Tri-Zone Temperature Control
The QX60’s include a Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control system with microfilter. The Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control offers three distinct climate zones. The driver, front passenger and rear passengers enjoy their own set of controls. Center vents in the 2nd row and side vents in the 3rd row allow passengers to be cooled or warmed comfortably. Air flow comes from the rear-seat heater ducts located under the 1st and 2nd row seats, as well as rear console-mounted and 3rd row side trim air vents. Available as part of the HEV Deluxe Touring Package is an Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster® air purifier, Grape Polyphenol Filter and auto recirculation to clean the air, cleansing it of most allergens, germs and odors.
Advanced Climate Control with Plasmacluster™
The High Density Plasmacluster™ Ion Generator is designed to help reduce most odors as they adhere onto the interior trim surfaces of the vehicle. It does this by supplying a high density of ions into the ventilation airflow, which helps suppress airborne bacteria. The latest version of Plasmacluster™ Ion Generator is equipped with a high-density concentration of Plasmacluster™ ions that have been proven to help keep skin naturally moisturized. In addition to decreasing most odor, the ion generator air purifier uses charged ions to help reduce or neutralize airborne germs helping to break down bacteria, viruses and allergens.
How it Works
The Plasmacluster™ control function operates when the blower motor operates. The unit generates Plasmacluster™ ions into the air blown from the ventilators. It also increases its generation to control the amount of ions according to the amount of air flow.
The Grape Seed Polyphenol Filter is designed to help reduce allergens. This new in-cabin optional microfilter restricts the entry of airborne dust and pollen particles and reduces some objectionable outside odors. The filter is located behind the glove box. This microfilter actually help deactivate allergens by filtering them through a fiber impregnated with natural grape seed polyphenol. The Grape Polyphenol Filter removes up to 99/5% of airborne allergens from the cabin.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System
The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) includes an individual tire pressure display and Tire Inflation Indicator, which provides both visual and audible signals to help owners conveniently maintain correct tire pressures without the use of a gauge. Drivers can also monitor individual tire pressures from the interior display. When the vehicle has reached a speed of 25 MPH (40 km/h) or greater, the BCM receives a signal transmitted from the tire pressure sensors/transmitters installed in each wheel. If the BCM detects low inflation pressure or a system malfunction, it sends a signal to the combination meter via CAN communication to illuminate the low tire pressure warning lamp. In addition, a warning message will be displayed in the vehicle information display.
Remote Engine Start System
QX60 Hybrids are available with a Remote Engine Start System, which allows the owner the option of starting the vehicle remotely, using the remote keyless entry system. The system is ideal for warming or cooling the interior prior to driving as desired.
Extending Engine Run Time
The remote start feature can be extended one time. After the engine has started by performing the remote start function, repeating the steps will extend the RES time for 10 minutes. The second 10 minutes will start immediately, extending the time.
Four Intelligent Keys can be registered and used with one vehicle. Each key can store the climate control setting, navigation system (if equipped) and the audio system presets. Each key can be synchronized with one of the two Automatic Drive Positioner memorized function settings to adjust the driver’s seat, mirrors and steering wheel position.
Driver Assist Package
The QX60 Hybrid will offer a wide range of available advanced technologies, such as Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection Backup Collision Intervention (BCI), and Blind Spot Warning (BSW).
Around View™ Monitor with Moving Object Detection
Four cameras positioned around the vehicle give a virtual 360° bird’s-eye-view on the display. There are cameras located in the center of the front grille, on the outside mirrors and above the rear license plate. Infiniti has now enhanced the Around View™ Monitor system with Moving Object Detection (MOD) — alerting the driver to moving objects. Infiniti helps navigate even the tightest spaces.
The Around View™ Monitor is a convenience feature. It is not a substitute for proper vehicle operation because it has areas where objects cannot be viewed. Always look out the windows and check to be sure that it is safe to move.
The available views vary based on the position of the shift lever. Certain view combinations are displayed in a split-screen format. The camera display will not be shown when the shift lever is in the Drive position and the vehicle speed is above approximately 6 miles-per-hour.
NOTE: A blue MOD icon is displayed on the screen when the MOD system is operative and a gray MOD icon is displayed in a view where the MOD system is not operative.
If the MOD system detects a moving object near the vehicle, a yellow frame is displayed on the display screen and a chime sounds intermittently. The yellow frame remains on the screen as long as the MOD system continues to detect moving objects.
The MOD function helps enhance the driver’s situational awareness by providing visual and audible warnings (front or back range object detection) if the system detects moving objects (such as another vehicle) within the displayed image in situations such as when pulling out of a parking space. Using sophisticated image processing technology, the system detects moving objects within the “bird's-eye-view” when the vehicle is in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) position. When starting off (at vehicle speeds below 5 mph), or backing up, it detects moving objects crossing within the front view or front-wide view, or the rearview or rear-wide view.
NOTE: Important Safety Information and system operation/limitations can be found in the owner's manual.
Blind Spot Warning Indicators
The Blind Spot Warning (BSW) indicator lights illuminate for a few seconds when the ignition switch is pushed to the ON position. The brightness of the BSW indicator lights are adjusted automatically, depending on the brightness of the ambient light. (The driver can change brightness by a setting in the combination meter.)
The BCI ON/OFF switch allows the driver to turn the BCI system ON and OFF. To turn the BCI system OFF, the engine must be started. If the selector is in R (Reverse) and the BCI system is OFF, the BCI system state is displayed on the meter display. The system will automatically reset to ON the next time the engine is started. The automatic activation function can be turned ON or OFF with the Settings menu for Driver Assistance menu items in the information display.
The Blind Side Warning detection zone starts from the outside mirror of vehicle and extends approximately 10 ft (3.0 m) behind the rear bumper, and approximately 10 ft (3.0 m) sideways.
The BSW and BSI systems are not a replacement for proper driving procedure and are not designed to prevent contact with vehicles or objects.
Back-Up Collision Intervention System
The Infiniti QX60 is available with the driver assistance feature called Back-up Collision Intervention (BCI). This technology will not only help a driver detect moving objects crossing behind his or her vehicle but will also, if necessary, automatically engage the brakes to help avoid a collision. When in the R (Reverse) position with the system turned ON, the BCI system continually monitors the area at the rear of the car in order to help avoid back-up collisions. The Back-up Collision Intervention feature is mainly intended for use while pulling out of spots in parking lots. Whenever an approaching vehicle is detected, the system will help alert the driver with beeps and a blinking warning light. If the driver continues backing, the system will generate braking force for two to three seconds, thanks to ESC (Electronic Stability Control), to alert the driver to apply the brake and stop moving further.
The BCI system may not provide warning or brake for a fast-approaching vehicle, a small obstacle or an obstacle close to the bumper. The BCI system is not a replacement for proper driving procedure and is not designed to prevent contact with vehicles or objects.
The BCI system is not a replacement for proper driving procedure, is not designed to prevent contact with vehicles or objects and does not provide full brake power.
There is a limitation to the detection capability of the radar or the sonar. Not every moving object or vehicle will be detected. Using the BSI and BCI systems under some road, ground, lane marker, traffic or weather conditions could lead to improper system operation.
BCI Driving Situations
If the system detects an approaching vehicle, the system sounds a chime (single beep), flashes the BSW indicator in the direction of the detected vehicle and displays the yellow frame on the view where the objects are detected. If the approaching vehicle is too fast or slow, the system may not detect it. When backing out of a parking space, always use the side and rear mirrors and turn and look in the direction you will move.
When the system detects an approaching vehicle: the sonar system chime sounds, and the system flashes the BSW indicator light on the outside mirror illuminating on the side the vehicle is approaching from and a yellow rectangular frame appears in display. The radar sensors detect an approaching vehicle from up to approximately 49 feet (15 m) away. The sonar sensors detect stationary objects behind the vehicle up to approximately 4.9 feet (1.5 m).
In the case of several vehicles approaching in a row or in opposite directions, a chime may not be issued after the first vehicle passes the sensors. The sonar system sounds a tone, and the BCI system does not chime.
If the system detects the approaching vehicle or obstacle coming close when backing up, it issues an audible warning (three times), alerts the driver with a red frame on the display and applies the brakes momentarily.
When parking in diagonal parking spaces, the range of the radar sensor decreases and the radar sensors may not be able to detect and activate the BCI system.
As you steer, the range of the radar sensor varies depending on obstacles that could be obstructing the detection zone and the radar sensors may not be able to detect and activate the BCI sytem.
For stationary objects, if the sonar sensors detect that the distance from the obstacle is too close while backing up, the system issues an audible warning (three times) and displays the red frame on the rear view monitor and applies the brakes for a short period of time.
NOTE: When backing into a parking space, the system may detect an adjacent vehicle or a structure.
BCI/BSW/BSI temporarily not available
Under the following conditions, the BCI systems will be turned off automatically, a beep will sound and the BCI system icon is displayed on the meter display.
The Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention (BSI) system are not available when the following conditions exist:
The radar sensors may be blocked by temporary ambient conditions, such as splashing water, mist or fog. The blocked condition may also be caused by objects, such as ice, frost or dirt obstructing the radar sensors.
BCI malfunction
When the BCI system malfunctions, it will be turned off automatically, a beep will sound and the BCI system indication will display "orange".
System Maintenance
The BCI system uses the same two radar sensor units that are used by the BSW/BSI system located near the rear bumper. For maintenance of the radar sensor, see “BSW SYSTEM/BSI SYSTEM” in the ESM. The BCI system uses the same sonar sensor that is used by the SONAR system located near the rear bumper.
