The 2016 Maxima^® Platinum level model is equipped with a wireless communication device called a Telematics Control Unit (TCU).

The TCU communicates with the NissanConnect^SM Data Center using GPS and GSM/GPRS technologies to provide various safety, security and convenience services (with an active NissanConnect^SM Services subscription).

The TCU allows the NissanConnect^SM Data Center to monitor the vehicle, obtain position coordinates and automatically detect events as well as initiate certain services from outside the vehicle.

DO NOT attempt to turn on the TCU using CONSULT-III (C-III) plus.

The TCU will become permanently non-functioning (irrecoverable).

Such damage is not covered under the Nissan New Vehicle Warranty.

Note: Each TCU is registered to a specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). TCUs cannot be “swapped” between vehicles.

At Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), confirm the SOS button is illuminated green:

With the ignition ON, if the SOS button is illuminated green, the TCU is already ON and no further action is needed.

If the SOS button is NOT illuminated green, use the method described below to turn on the TCU.

1. Temporarily place the vehicle in non-shipping mode (extended storage switch pushed IN).

2. Cycle the ignition ON > OFF > wait 2 seconds > ON.

3. Make sure the extended storage warning message is not displayed in the combination meter.

4. Press the hazard warning flasher button and leave the flashers ON.

5. Turn the ignition OFF. Make sure ACC mode is also OFF.

6. Wait 60 seconds (you MUST wait the full 60 seconds).

7. Press and hold the SOS button for more than 10 seconds.

8. After releasing the SOS button, turn the ignition ON.

9. Wait 60 seconds (you MUST wait the full 60 seconds).

10. Confirm the green light on the SOS button is illuminated, indicating the TCU is ON.

11. Press the hazard warning flasher button to turn the flashers OFF.

12. Turn the ignition OFF.

13. Pull OUT the extended storage switch to return the vehicle to shipping mode.
