The 2016 TITAN XD includes a Tow Mode function to help enhance the control of the vehicle when towing a trailer or when hauling heavy loads.
Push the tow mode switch to activate tow mode.
- Tow mode should be used when pulling a heavy trailer or hauling a heavy load.
- In tow mode, the transmission shift points
are modified to improve power during
acceleration and engine braking during
deceleration or when going down hills.
- Driving the vehicle in the tow mode
with no trailer/load or light trailer/
light load will not cause any damage.
However, fuel economy may be reduced,
and the transmission/engine driving
characteristics may feel unusual.
ACTIVATING TOW MODE
- PUSH THE TOW
MODE switch to
activate (turn ON)
tow mode. The
TOW indicator light
illuminates when tow
mode is activated.
- PUSH THE TOW
MODE SWITCH
AGAIN to turn tow
mode OFF.
- TOW MODE IS
AUTOMATICALLY
CANCELED (turned
OFF) when the
ignition is turned
OFF.
Tow Mode Functions
- Grade logic/going up hill: The
transmission will hold the lower gears
longer, delaying upshifts to achieve the
peak engine rpm/torque range.
- Accelerating: Transmission
downshifts, when accelerating, are
more aggressive to utilize the best
rpm/torque range.
- Downhill Speed Control (DSC):
Depending on the driving condition and
load conditions, the transmission may
automatically downshift when driving
down a grade to help control vehicle
speed. The amount of downshift
braking will vary depending upon the
amount the driver presses the brake
pedal.
- Decelerating: When the engine is not
accelerating (no throttle input) and
the brakes are applied, transmission
downshift points are more aggressive
to utilize engine braking.
