Front/Rear Door Finisher Discolored/Faded Cleaning Service Tip
As the summer months are upon us trips to, the beach, the lake, and the pool become a common occurrence. This also means the use of suntan lotions and other skin care products increases. Coincidently, so does the amount of warranty claims for door finisher contamination. Analysis of the warranty returned parts has found that many of the door finishers were discolored by personal skincare products becoming trapped in the material grain of door finishers. If a door panel looks discolored or faded, the probable cause is buildup of dirt in the grain of the material and the staining or penetration of lotions and skincare products on the door finisher.
When servicing a customer's vehicle for door panel finisher contamination or stains, remember replacement of the finisher is not always necessary. Many of the stains or contaminated areas caused by lotions and dirt buildup can be successfully removed and easily cleaned by using Nissan-approved vinyl and leather cleaner (PN- 999MP-A5060P) and a soft bristle brush.
A soiled door panel can be cleaned as follows:
Note: On some heavily stained and soiled areas, it may be necessary to perform repeated cleanings in order to completely remove the buildup and contamination.
Refer to NTB08-090b released for Altima and Maxima door panel discolored/faded incidents. Keep in mind the same process can apply to all Nissan vehicles with similar conditions.
Note: Vehicle care and maintenance (cleaning) is not covered under warranty. Do Not replace the door panel when cleaning will resolve the concern. Doors replaced under warranty that could have been cleaned will get charged back to the dealer.
