Wheel Alignment Diagnosis and Repair SIRs

Recently, there were two new SIRs produced relating to wheel alignment diagnosis and repair: Volume 167 Wheel Alignment Information Updates, and Volume 168 Correcting Vehicle Pull & Steering Wheel Off-Center Condition. These SIRs will provide you with good information to help with diagnosing and repairing vehicle pull / drift, and steering wheel off-center conditions right the first time.

Volume 167 - Wheel Alignment Information Updates

This SIR reviews the wheel alignment process and the importance of performing the recommended thrust angle alignment procedure as outlined in the service bulletins. It examines the equipment used, the need for careful inspection of the rack, front turn plates, rear slide plates, and the target mounts. Finally, it explores the actual alignment process and the precautions you should always observe.

Volume 168 - Correcting Vehicle Pull & Steering Wheel Off-Center Condition

This SIR release looks at the definitions of Vehicle Pull & Steering Wheel Off-Center. It discusses what these terms mean, how they are defined, and how the issues should be addressed. Then it reviews the diagnosis procedures for the essential road test, the use of two special tools – the Steering Wheel Offset Gauge and the Road Crown Gauge – and the follow-up inspection. Next, it shows how to isolate a “pull” or “drift” condition that may be caused by issues with one or more tires. It also looks at the condition of “Steering Wheel Off-Center” which may require a wheel-alignment procedure for correction.
