2016 INFINITI Q50
3.0L V6 TURBO ENGINE
For your ADRENALINE-FUELED EXCITEMENT, we present the VR30DDTT: An all-new engine from the exclusive VR-series engine family. This new compact, lightweight 3.0-LITER V6 TWIN-TURBO engine is the most advanced V6 engine that Infiniti has ever offered, striking an ideal balance between drivability, efficiency, and performance.
TWO VERSIONS OF THIS ENGINE WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IN THE 2016 Q50:
ON A HIGH-LEVEL VIEW, BOTH VERSIONS OF THIS NEW ENGINE HAVE MANY SIMILARITIES:
ELECTRIC CONTROLLED VTC INTAKE VALVE TIMING (IVT)
Intake cam timing is controlled by the new, very-high-speed-response, electric motor system.
DIRECT INJECTION GASOLINE (DIG) FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
The DIG adopts a high-fuel pressure pump, sub-tube and fuel pressure sensor. The high-fuel pressure pump is a single cylinder type that is driven by a Bank 2 exhaust cam and pump lifter to produce high fuel pressure under 3 stages.
The exhaust manifold is basically cast into the head, such that the turbocharger is bolted directly to the engine head.
TWO TURBOCHARGERS
Two turbochargers, one per bank; each with a high-speed electronically-driven wastegate.
CHARGED AIR COOLING (CAC)
Note:
Periodic replacement of CAC coolant
(Genuine Nissan Long Life Antifreeze/
Coolant - blue) is not needed.
LUBRICATION SYSTEM
Either liquid-to-oil or air-to-oil coolers for engine lubrication, thermostatically controlled to maintain optimum temperatures.
MULTI-WAY CONTROL VALVE
Engine coolant flow is controlled by a Multi-way Control Valve. This is a motordriven valve that integrates the thermostat and a water control valve. It can control the flow of coolant to the radiator, heater and oil cooler (as applicable).
ENGINE-DRIVEN VACUUM PUMP
Due to highly variable intake manifold pressures of this turbocharged engine, an engine-driven vacuum pump is used to supply a consistent vacuum source for the power brake booster.
