Complementing the redesigned engine is a performance-oriented RE0F10H Xtronic CVT that features:
• A wider ratio range that helps provide for stronger acceleration from a standing start.
• All-new D-Step shifting logic that helps provide rapid shifts at high throttle openings.
The new, performance-oriented RE0F10H Xtronic CVT complements the sporty character of the all-new 2016 Maxima.
D-Step
D-Step is a software update added to the 2016 Maxima® CVT to help give drivers the feeling that their vehicle is shifting gears like a regular automatic transmission. Once the engine reaches 4,000 RPM, the software modulates the Xtronic CVT shift control to fabricate brief drop in driving force and follows it up with a positive G drop, creating a sensation similar to that of shifting gear to gear. D-Step also helps relieve engine noise that comes from constant high-rev acceleration.
Drive Mode Selector
The all-new Maxima will make a drive mode selector feature available for the first time. The Maxima’s drive mode selector provides two driving modes which can be selected by using the drive mode selector switches, NORMAL and SPORT.
1. NORMAL mode: NORMAL mode provides settings for the best comfort and efficiency.
2. SPORT mode: When the Maxima is in SPORT mode, the throttle response curve is adjusted resulting in greater throttle output, steering feel increases at road speeds and the Xtronic transmission programming changes so that shifts become quicker. The gear ratio limits the shifting range to the high side, which helps to generate more performance oriented RPM than NORMAL mode. SPORT mode will also increase Active Sound Enhancement (Bose® equipped Models).
All Maximas are also equipped with manual shift mode via the console shifter gate. The SR grade models come standard with manual shift mode as well as steering-mounted paddle shifters.
